MCDONALD’S RECALLS SHREK MOVIE-THEMED GLASSES DUE TO POTENTIAL CADMIUM RISK
June 6, 2010 (Washington D.C.) The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with McDonald’s, has announced a voluntary recall of about 12 million “Shrek Forever After 3D” collectible drinking glasses due to high levels of cadmium in the designs. Although no injuries have been reported, long-term exposure to cadmium can cause adverse health effects. Consumers should stop using recalled products and visit www.mcdonalds.com for additional instructions on how to obtain a full refund.
For additional information, contact McDonald’s toll-free at (800) 244-6227 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or visit the firm’s website at www.mcdonalds.com. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.
The glasses were manufactured in the U.S. by ARC International of Millville, N.J. and sold through McDonalds restaurants nationwide from May 2010 into June 2010. The 16 ounce glasses came in four designs, Shrek, Fiona, Puss n’ Boots, and Donkey.
CPSC was made aware of issues with this product through the Office of Congresswoman Jackie Speier from California.
