WOMEN BUSINESS LEADERS TAKE GOP’S TOP TICKET RACES:
Whitman, Fiorina win by large margins in Gubernatorial and Senate primaries
June 8, 2010 (San Diego) -- Former E-Bay CEO Meg Whitman trounced Steve Steve Poizner by a 64.4%-26.5% margin with 47% of precincts reporting as of midnight. Whitman,who spent more than $71 million on her campaign, will square off in November against former Governor Edmund G. “Jerry” Brown.
In the U.S. Senate race, Carly Fiorina, former head of Hewlitt Packard, also handily defeated Chuck DeVote and Tom Campbell, garnering 55% of the vote to Campbell’s 24% and DeVore’s 18%. Fiorina will take on Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer in the general election this fall.
In the Lieutenant Governor’s race, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom defeated Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hann in the Democratic primary, while Abel Maldonado, the appointed incumbent, won handily on the Republican side of the aisle.
