DOMINANT SECOND HALF GIVES SDSU MEN'S BASKETBALL 74-60 WIN OVER STANFORD

December 21, 2023 (San Diego) - San Diego State opened the second half on a 15-3 scoring run to pull away from Stanford, defeating the Cardinal 74-60 on Thursday night.
The Aztecs (10-2) started the game on just 2-of-9 shooting but rallied to end the half with four makes on their final five attempts. Darrion Trammell sent SDSU into the break with a two-point lead, hitting a floater at the buzzer to make it 34-32 at half.
SDSU carried that momentum into the second half, increasing their lead to double digits within the first three and a half minutes. From that point on, Stanford (5-5) never brought it back to a single-digit game the rest of the night.
Lamont Butler led all scorers with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting. He also led the game with four assists on the night. Jaedon LeDee put up 16 points despite playing just 1:34 in the first half after being called for two quick fouls out of the gate. Micah Parrish also finished in double-figures with 10 points to go along with five rebounds and three assists.
The Aztecs outshot Stanford 45% to 41% on the back of a 53.8% shooting effort in the second half. They were 8-of-27 (30%) from beyond the arc compared to the Cardinal's 3-of-20 (15%). The Scarlet and Black also held the advantage in bench points (20-10), points off forced turnovers (15-6), and second chance points (10-4).
San Diego State will end the calendar year and their non-conference slate on the road at No. 15 Gonzaga on Friday, December 29.
