PEDESTRIAN STRUCK, KILLED ON I-8 IN EL CAJON
East County News ServiceApril 15, 2024 (El Cajon) – An El Cajon man, 38, was struck and killed on April 13 while walking in the #2 lane on westbound Interstate 8, near East Main Street in El Cajon.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian was a Santee woman, 37, driving a black 2020 Mazda, traveling west on I-8 at 9:21 p.m.
“The Mazda was not able to avoid the pedestrian and struck him in the #2 lane,” says Officer Jared Grieshaber with California Highway Patrol.
The pedestrian succumbed to his injuries on scene. The driver of the Mazda stopped at the scene of the crash and was uninjured.
This is an ongoing investigation; drugs and/or alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash for the driver of the Mazda, according to Officer Grieshaber.
