March 25, 2026 (Santee) – A juvenile riding an electric motorcycle on Mission Gorge Road yesterday afternoon was struck by a passing motorist and fell off the e-motorcycle.

The motorist fled the scene before Sheriff’s deputies arrived.

In a preliminary investigation, statements from witnesses indicate that a group of kids on e-motorcycles were ‘in the roadway causing a hazard -- riding in lanes, holding up traffic,” when the juvenile was struck, said Sgt. Lorenzo Ortiz.

Emergency medical personnel responded and transported the young rider to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“While deputies were on scene, several additional juvenile riders operating e-motorcycles fled the area, riding over center medians and into oncoming traffic, nearly causing additional collisions,” Ortiz said.

The juveniles left their injured friend at the scene.

“Deputies were not pursuing these individuals and were present solely in response to the original collision,” Ortiz adds.

It is currently unknown whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident. The Santee Sheriff's Traffic Unit is actively investigating.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has additional information is encouraged to contact the Santee Sheriff's Station at (619) 956-4000.
