HEARTLAND FIRE AND RESCUE PRACTICE VEHICLE EXTRICATION

May 2, 2011 (East County) -- During the week of April 23, 2011, all personnel from Heartland Fire and Rescue serving the cities of El Cajon, La Mesa, and Lemon Grove attended vehicle extrication training. C&D Towing made the training possible by providing twenty vehicles to practice the vehicle extrication and rescue techniques. The training was especially valuable because newer cars continue to change.

The firefighters were able to use several new tools and techniques to cut cars apart quickly and efficiently. The tools they used during this training were new Amkus cutters (Jaws of Life) and a new metal cutting saw. Both tools will be a tremendous benefit  as the new, stronger cars become more popular, according to Monica Zech, spokesperson for Heartland Fire and Rescue.
