GREAT FAMILY FILMS COMING SOON TO A PARK NEAR YOU!
May 26, 2011 (San Diego County) --The region’s largest free outdoor summer movies series returns this year with more locations and more great family films than ever before. The San Diego County Department of Parks and Recreation has teamed up with the cities of San Diego, National City, La Mesa, San Marcos, Oceanside, Poway and Lemon Grove and the U.S.S. Midway to expand the Summer Movies in the Park series.
“The series has gotten bigger, but our ticket prices haven’t gone up—this is still a great free activity for families and a great way to enjoy a summer evening in a park,” said Brian Albright, Director of the County Department of Parks and Recreation. Forty movies are scheduled for local parks and pools—and deck of the Midway—making it the largest free movie series in the County. The program kicks off June 3 with The Princess Bride in Old Town’s Heritage Park and continues through Sept. 23. Other movies include box office hits Despicable Me, Toy Story 3 andKarate Kid (2010) and such classics as Grease and Back to the Future.
The movies will be shown in high-quality digital video on an enormous inflatable widescreen designed for large audiences. The series is produced by Fun Flicks, a company specializing in outdoor movies.Pre-film activities include karaoke battles, games, music and contests. Participants are encouraged to bring a chair, blanket and refreshments.
The 2011 Summer Movies in the Park series is presented by Wilsey Asset Management and sponsored by the County Health and Human Services Agency’s It’s Up to Us campaign to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and its Healthy Works campaign for healthier schools and neighborhoods. Many other local organizations are also sponsors.
