“DUMP THE PUMP” DAY JUNE 15
June 11, 2011 (San Diego) – The average car emits 12,000 pounds of C02 pollution each year – the weight of an adult elephant! Metropolitan Transit Service and the San Diego Zoo have teamed up to urge San Diego County residents to leave their cars at home and ride public transit on national “Dump the Pump” Day this Wednesday, June 15.
Just by giving up driving one day aweek, riders can make a big difference in their annual C02 output--and save money on sky-high gas prices. Using public transit also cuts air pollution and helps the U.S. reduce dependence on foreign oil.
To highlight the benefits of using public transportation, Supervisor Ron Roberts will be joining with conservation expert Megan Owen from the San Diego Zoo as well as representatives from the County Air Pollution Control District and MTS in a press conference Wednesday morning at the Zoo’s Elephant Odyssey exhibit.
