CAL-FIRE OFFERS CAMPFIRE SAFETY TIPS
July 23, 2011 (San Diego’s East County)--Wildfires are on the increase. Yet most wildfires can be prevented.
If you go camping, Cal-Fire asks that you follow these safety steps:
Build your campfire away from overhanging branches, steep slopes, logs, dry grass and leaves. Clear a ten foot wide circle from flammable material around your campfire.
Always keep a bucket of water close by, and never leave your fire unattended. A sudden wind could come-up and spread your fire when you are gone.
Extinguish your campfire when you’re through with it. Don't bury the campfire, instead mix water and soil with the hot ashes then carefully, feel for heat with the back of your hand. Remember be fire safe, not sorry!
