AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC). NCCC is a 10 month long program for volunteers 18-24 year olds. Corps Members come from all over the country to one of five campuses. Once on campus the Corps Members are split up into teams of 8-12 people, and go through a month long training. Teams are then sent to various locations throughout the United States to serve for about six weeks with nonprofits.
The team in Lakeside, under leadership of Abby Rosen, has received training in Sacramento and is working with Lakeside River Park Conservancy and for the County of San Diego Parks and Recreation.
In Lakeside, the San Diego River has gone through many changes. Over recent years it has become a beautiful oasis thanks to the help of a young enthusiastic army of volunteers.
The mission of AmeriCorps NCCC is to strengthen communities and develop leaders through direct, team-based national and community service. In partnership with non-profits—secular and faith based, local municipalities, state governments, federal government, national or state parks, Indian Tribes and schools members complete service projects throughout the region they are assigned. Their motto is “We're here to get things done.”
