BILLS FOR BILL: FUNDRAISER AT ALPINE TAVERN APRIL 2 TO HELP COVER MEDICALCOSTS FOR EDUCATION LEADER BILL WEAVER
By Miriam Raftery
March 19, 2012 (Alpine)—A spinal tumor and life-threatening infection have left Bill Weaver, a dedicated education leader and advocate for East County’s children, in need of community help. I ask our readers to join in efforts to help Bill, who requires continuing in-home care while recovering from a long hospital stay. There are two ways you can help.
On Monday, April 2 from 3-10 p.m., the Alpine Tavern & Grill at 2502 Alpine Blvd. in Alpine will host “Beers for Bill,” donating 20% of proceeds to help pay for Bill’s medical expenses.
“We ask everyone in the community to come raise a glass to Bill’s health and help us raise funds to ensure Bill’s continued recovery!” states East County Chamber Education Committee co-chair and friend, Doug Deane.
You may also donate “Bills for Bill” at the Alpine Branch of Chase Bank, 1271 Tavern Road, by specifying contributions to the special fund under his name.
Bill Weaver, who has authored several education editorial s for East County Magazine, has worked tirelessly through the years as a voice for East County children, supporting primary and secondary education reform.
He is co-chair of the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce Business Education Committee, Past Chair of the Alpine High School Citizens Committee and Past Chair of the Alpine & Mountain Empire Chamber of Commerce Education Committee. He has been selected Alpine Public Service and Leadership “Citizen of the Year 2009” and has been named to the East County Leadership Class of 2011.
We wish Bill a speedy recovery and encourage all of our readers to join in the effort to defray his medical bills.
