COME CELEBRATE NATIONAL TRAILS DAY JUNE 2
Hikes and Cleanups to be Held at County Parks Around the Region
June 1, 2012 (San Diego) -- The San Diego County Department of Parks and Recreation is inviting everyone to “live well” and celebrate National Trails Day Saturday, June 2 by hiking through or helping to clean and restore trails in County parks.
Special hikes and cleanups are planned in 17 parks that day, from hiking to explore undeveloped areas in Julian’s William Heise County Park, to volunteering to help clean the Saturn Trail in the Tijuana River Valley Regional Park.
Taking part in a National Trails Day event this year will not only help celebrate and preserve a great local resource, trails. It will also help the public become part of Live Well! San Diego!, the County’s 10-year initiative to help the region live in a healthy, safe and thriving community. What could be healthier than being outside, in nature, hiking through a beautiful park or preserve? Hiking can lower your blood pressure, pump your heart and set your mind free!
National Trails Day, the only nationwide celebration of trails, grew out of President Ronald Reagan’s President’s Commission on Americans Outdoors, which recommended that all Americans should be able to go out their front doors and find a trail within 15 minutes.
So come celebrate with other folks who want to be healthy and celebrate a great national pastime, hiking!
