Public’s help needed after alleged sexual battery of 10-year-old in Poway

POWAY – Detectives from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Child Abuse Unit are searching for a man who allegedly sexually battered a 10-year-old girl last Saturday evening.

The incident occurred on shortly after 6 p.m., May 2 shortly near the 13400 block of Midland Road. Authorities say that the victim was with a friend when she was approached and battered by an unknown male. The assault was interrupted when the victim’s friend screamed for the suspect to stop, causing him to flee the scene on an electric scooter.

Sheriff’s deputies, K9 units, and the ASTREA helicopter conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area immediately following the report, but the suspect was not located. Child Abuse Unit detectives have since taken over the investigation and completed a canvas of the neighborhood for evidence and witnesses.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male between 30 and 40 years old. He is about 5-foot-10 tall with a medium build and complexion.

His notable physical features include black shaved hair with a receding hairline and bushy eyebrows; and a large nose, acne scars and an unshaven appearance. He was last seen wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, black shorts, and black sunglasses.

Officials are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen a man matching this description in the Midland Road area to contact the Sheriff’s Child Abuse Unit at (858) 285-6222 during business hours or (858) 868-3200 after hours.
