May 13, 2026 (La Mesa) – An 80-year-old woman walking in the driveway at Costco in La Mesa was struck by a vehicle pulling out of the driveway this morning shortly after noon. She later died of her injuries.

La Mesa Police officers responded to 9-1-1 calls and found the woman lying in the roadway and unresponsive.  “Despite the lifesaving efforts of the officers and fire department personnel, the female died at the hospital,” says Lieutenant Travis Higgins with the La Mesa Police Department.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, Lt. Higgins said, adding, “Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision. The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time.”

The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation. Anyone who might have information is encouraged to call 619-667-1400.
