March 20, 2017 (Peoria, Ariz.) - The Texas Rangers came to Peoria Sports Complex tonight for a rare spring training night game. Clayton Richard started on the mound for the Padres against Nick Martinez for the Rangers.
The Rangers worked over the Padres quickly. In the first, Ryan Rua singled to give Texas a 1-0 lead. Nomar Mazara beat out a tag to first that scored Rougned Odor and Texas quickly jumped to a 2-0 lead.
The Padres didn't get on the board until the sixth when Travis Jankowski was picked off trying to steal second, but Allen Cordoba scored from third and the Rangers led 2-1.
As usual, the Padres picked a man off the bench to be their savior, and tonight, that man was Albert Martinez. He homered in the eighth to tie the game at two.
Usually, the Padres would give up the lead again after tying it. This time, however, Christian Bethancourt blasted a solo shot and the Padres miraculously walked it off 3-2.
The Padres travel to Scottsdale tomorrow to play an exhibition game against the San Francisco Giants. First pitch is at 1:05 p.m.
