April 15, 2017 (Atlanta) - It wasn’t a Good Friday for the Padres, losing the first game of a series to the Braves in their new stadium. Luckily for them, they have three more games to set the record straight. Clayton Richard started on the mound for San Diego against veteran ace R.A. Dickey for the Braves.
Like last night, the Padres started early. Hunter Renfroe and Austin Hedges both knocked out solo homers in the second and, like last night, the Padres were up 2-0.
The Braves got on the board in the third when Dansby Swanson singled and scored Chase D’Arnaud. The Padres still led 2-1. The Braves did to the Padres what the Padres did to them last night. Nick Markakis tied the game at two with a single.
The Padres managed to keep it even until the sixth, when the Braves hit two back-to-back solo homers. First from Brandon Phillips and then from Adonis Garcia to catapult the Braves to a 4-2 lead and a 2-0 series lead.
The MLB makes no accommodations for religion; the Padres and Braves will play game three tomorrow on Easter Sunday at 10:35 a.m. Trevor Cahill will start for the Padres against the legendary Bartolo Colon for the Braves.
