June 30, 2018 (San Diego) - The Padres were outsmarted by two Grossmont High alumni last night. Tonight they faced another San Diego high school alum, Trevor Williams from Rancho Bernardo High. He faced Joey Lucchesi.
The Pirates were the ones Padres’ing tonight. In the second, they messed up a potential double play and allowed Christian Villanueva to score and give the Padres a 1-0 lead.
Wil Myers added some insurance in the third with a two-out solo home run to left in the third to make it 2-0.
Myers kept adding more in the fifth with a lined two-RBI double to kick Williams out of the game and make it 4-0.
The Pirates finally got on the board with a sac groundout by Elias Diaz to score Josh Harrison in the sixth to make it 4-1 Padres.
The Bucs started a huge rally in the ninth with Austin Meadows’ RBI double to left to score Elias Diaz. Gregory Polanco tripled just over the reach of Travis Jankowski in right to score Meadows, but the Padres just barely escaped with a 4-3 win to even the series at one game apiece.
Tomorrow’s finale is at 1:10 p.m. Jameson Taillon starts for the Pirates against Tyson Ross.
