July 14, 2017 (San Marcos) - The San Diego Stars semipro baseball team equaled a franchise record Friday morning when Western Baseball Association officials named six members of the ballclub to play in Saturday's annual WBA All-Star Game, to be held at Palomar College.
In addition, Stars owner/field manager Mickey Deutschman was chosen to coach the Stars. He will include Stars assistant coach Mike Butterfield to the All-Star team's coaching staff.
Among the players, four position players and a pair of pitchers will head to San Marcos for the festivities, including the Seidel brothers -- right-fielder Dallas (.375) and right-handed pitcher Austin (2-0, 1.84 ERA) -- from Santana High School.
The others feature: San Diego Christian College pitcher Jeremiah Wylie (5-1, 2.73) , Finlandia University (Mich.) third baseman Joey Krug (.395, 21 RBI; both team highs), CSU San Marcos slugger Shane Coleman (.385, 5 HR), and pro catching prospect Hank Gonzales (.375) .
Two other (unnamed) members of the Stars are on standby depending on availability and position from the other member clubs in the WBA South Division. Thus, the total number of Stars honored could still reach a record level.
Several local and area pro baseball scouts will be in attendance.
