May 16, 2023 (San Diego) - The Padres finally got a nice win last night over the Royals. They looked to take the series tonight against Brady Singer on the mound for Kansas City against Seth Lugo.
Tonight, the Padres Padres’d and let a last place team walk all over them. It started in the second. Matt Duffy singled to score Edward Olivares, M.J. Melendez scored, Bobby Witt Jr. singled to score Duffy and Salvador Perez capped it off with a two-RBI double and the Royals led 5-0 after two.
The Padres attempted to come back in the fifth. Brett Sullivan scored on an error and Jake Cronenworth tripled to score Fernando Tatis Jr., but the Royals held them in check, 5-2 after five.
Matt Carpenter cut the lead in half in the sixth with a double up the middle that scored Xander Bogaerts. Ha-Seong Kim hit a sac fly to score Carpenter, but the Royals’ defense saved the day again and prevailed for the narrow 5-4 win to even the series.
