March 8, 2018 (Kent, Wash.) - The 14-time and 2017-18 Pacific Division Champion San Diego Sockers dropped Game One of the best-of-three Major Arena Soccer League Divisional Championship Series to the Tacoma Stars 5-2 at accesso ShoWare Center in Kent, Washington on Thursday night. San Diego now must win Game Two to set up a series-deciding 15-minute Mini-Game at Valley View Casino Center on Saturday night. The two goals scored by San Diego was their lowest offensive output of the season.
Taylor Walter Bond scored the unassisted game-winning goal at 3:43 of the fourth period to put Tacoma up for good. Jamael Cox added another tally two minutes later give Tacoma a two-goal margin. San Diego used the sixth-attacker for the final four minutes but was unable to get past the Stars defense, and allowed a Raphael Cox empty-net goal to put the final nail in the Sockers coffin.
