February 1, 2009 (San Diego's East County) — Winter's chill is past--time to
step out in the sunshine and savor some of the many fun-filled events this
month in San Diego's eastern regions. Find details on all of these events and

This is the prime season to visit Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, where a
wealth of activities are slated in February--from a desert night sky lecture
on Feb. 6th to Archeology Weekend on the 21st-22nd and a hike through slots,
vistas and side canyons on the 28th.

Escondido's 2nd Saturday ArtWalk features live music, food and art at a variety
of galleries and museums. Savor music from the Silk Road, a chocolate
tasting party, and much more at the February 14th event.

Also on February 14th, start your day off with a visit to "Flavors of
the Garden", a delectable tour at Cuyamaca College's Water Conservation Garden
. While there, be sure to visit "A Day of Art & Discovery" at the Heritage
of the Americas Museum. Then savor a romantic "Vino Valentino" night
at Rancho Bernardo Winery.

In celebration of Black History Month, Julian hosts Black History Month Festival
on the 28th , the East County Performing Arts Center presents African
Americana on the 22nd, while author Anne Schraff Spring speaks at the Spring
Valley Library on the 5th.

Music lovers can attend a pipe organ concert in La Mesa on the 13th--or check
out Motley Crue in concert at SDSU's Cox Arena.

Art ChairSeveral prominent speakers will present lectures locally. Marjorie Cohn
from Thomas Jefferson School of Law will speak on "International Human Rights & Foreign
Policy" in La Mesa on February 4th. Brigadier General Robert Cardenas
joins Space Fest activities in Spring Valley on the 16h.

Yes, there is a free lunch--at the Senior Wellness Fair in Alpine on the 25th,
where free mammograms are also being provided. You can also get free
acupuncture treatments at El Cajon's First Friday event on Feburary 6th.

Nature lovers won't want to miss "Hawk Watch" each Saturday this month in
Ramona. Take
the kids to Poway's youth Fishing Derby on the 7th--and bring home a whopper!
