December 20, 2010 (Bonita) -- It’s the season for family celebrations. But two local mothers, it’s a painful reminder of that empty spot at the dinner table. Their teenage sons were shot and killed on Highway 54 in Bonita two years ago. Today, both made an appeal to find the killer(s) of their children, Brandon Johnson, 16, and Donnell Davis, 15.

At a press conference this morning, San Diego Sheriff’s Department and Crime Stoppers announced a $50,000 Governor’s award in hopes of generating new leads.

“Brandon and Donnell were good kids,” said Charmaine Johnson, Brandon’s mother. “They weren’t in gangs or anything. They had dreams and they had goals and they were working on them."  She issued a plea for anyone who knows what happened to contact authorities, 10 News reported at today's press conference.

"I'm begging you from the bottom of my heart and soul, with everything inside of me, please come forward and help me get justice for my son," Johnson added.

At Monday morning's news conference, authorities released several previously unpublicized photographs of the crash scene and a map of the route the victims took in the minutes preceding the shooting. In addition, flyers have been created to let the public know about the new reward money.

The two boys met in sixth grade and became life-long best friends. On March 16, 2008 they were shot and killed while riding in a car on Highway 54 near Briarwood in Bonita. Brandon, Donnell and two other friends were heading home from the Brunswick Premier Lanes in Chula Vista when a car pulled alongside and fired multiple gun shots into their car.

“Brandon was a very happy, loving young man with a bright smile and big dreams,” a press release issued by Crimestoppers states. “He touched the lives of many during his short life. He loved basketball, football and video games. Brandon also had a great relationship with his family.”

Donnell was a talented athlete who always wanted to “take his game to the next level,” the release states. “He loved football and track and field. To know Donnell was to love him. At school, his smile would light up the quad.”
