July 24, 2011 (Oslo, Norway) – At least 96 people are confirmed killed in Norway from a bombing in Oslo followed by shootings of teenagers at a Labor Party youth camp. A Norwegian man, Anders Behring Breivik, 32, has been arrested and charged with both crimes.

According to the BBC, the gunman is “linked to far right, anti-Islamic organisations" and spent years planning the massacres.  The New York Times reports that Breivik left behind a manifesto in which he quoted anti-Muslim and anti-immigration bloggers in the U.S.extensively as well as the Unabomber.

At the House of Norway in Balboa Park, Oddvar Hoidal told ECM news partner 10 News he was shocked by the tragedy. "This is the worst catastrophe that has happened in Norway since World War II and of course, it was during peace time," he said.

The killer's rambling manifesto also stated that he had a mentor in Britain named "Richard", prompting British law enforcement to launch an investigation into possible terrorist connections.
