September 17, 2019 (Spring Valley) -- Christian Lopez, 27, has been charged with the murder of 17-year-old Jeffrey Quirino, who was stabbed during a fight on May 23, 2016.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a fight in front of 8914 Delrose Ave. in Spring Valley, but learned that a passing motorist had taken the victim to a hospital, where he died of his injuries a week later.
Quirino, who took care of his disabled mother, had planned to join the Navy after finishing school. “We call him our giant, gentle giant because he was really big, but he was like the nicest person ever," his sister Kimberly Quirino told NBC 7.
His organs were donated after his death, saving other lives including another 17-year old.
Following a three year investigation, detectives from the Sheriff’s homicide detail, Rancho San Diego station and East County Gang Task force identified Lopez as a suspect.
Lopez, who was already on unrelated charges, was arrested yesterday and charged with murdering Quirino, according to Lt. Chad Boudreau wit the Sheriff’s homicide detail.
