March 2, 2016 (Colorado Springs, Co.) - The San Diego State Aztecs football program has released its 2016 schedule.
The Aztecs will begin the season by facing New Hampshire, a school known for its hockey program more than its football program, for the first time on September 3rd. However, the Wildcats aren't a joke; they finished with a 7-5 record last season and made the first round of their 12th FCS playoff appearance (longest in the NCAA) before losing to Colgate. They went 12-2 in 2014 and were the top-ranked team in the country.
The Aztecs' first road game will be on September 17th when they travel to the Land of Lincoln to take on Northern Illinois. The Huskies went 8-6 in 2015 and 6-2 in the MAC, losing to Bowling Green in the conference championship game. The Aztecs and Huskies haven't met since 1971. SDSU leads the series 4-0.
SDSU will begin conference play October 8th against UNLV. The Aztecs have won five of the past six meetings with the Rebels. They are 11-3 against UNLV since 2002 and 16-9 all time.
The Aztecs' last road game will be in Wyoming and they will wrap up the season at home against Colorado State. To see the Aztecs' full schedule and a rundown of opponents, visit goaztecs.com.
