March 10, 2020 (Honolulu) - The San Diego State women’s golf team is in fifth place after two rounds of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, which began Tuesday on the par-72, 6,099-yard Kane’ohe Klipper Golf Course in Kane’ohe, O’ahu.
The Aztecs finished their first 36 holes of the 54-hole tournament at 12-over-par 588. No. 3 Arizona State has a commanding 15-shot lead in the tournament and is the only team under par at 12-under 564. Ohio State and TCU are tied for second at 3-over 579, while Stetson (+11) sits just one spot ahead of SDSU.
Junior Sarah Kjellker (Hollviken, Sweden) leads the way for San Diego State in a tie for eighth place at 1-over 145 after rounds of 74 and 71. Junior Ella Adams (Adelaide, Australia) is tied for 19th at 3-over 147 (73-74), while freshman Bernice Olivarez Ilas (Ayala Alabang, Philippines) is one shot back of Adams in a tie for 22nd at 4-over 148 (75-73). Junior Gioia Carpinelli (Boppelsen, Switzerland) and senior Fernando Escauriza (Asunción, Paraguay) round out the scoring for the Aztecs at 5-over 149 (73-76) and 11-over 155 (80-75), respectively, while sophomore April Ranches (San Diego) is in a tie for 53rd at 9-over 153 (76-77), competing as an individual.
Arizona State’s Lina Grant leads after two rounds at 6-under 138 after back-to-back 69s.
SDSU’s final round will begin at 8:05 a.m. HT (11:05 a.m. PT) Wednesday on holes 4-7.
