August 16, 2018 (Lakeside) – The body of 12-year-old Lia Rose Barakett was recovered yesterday from the San Vicente Reservoir in Lakeside, where she fell overboard from a boat during an outing with family and friends. Barakett, a Canadian resident, was visiting the area when the tragedy occurred.

The boat’s operator was towing a tube with a passenger on August 11th and stopped suddenly when the tube rider fell in the water, causing Barakett to fall overboard from her seat at the front of the boat.

Authorities believe the boat ran over her, causing her to become separated from her life jacket which was found damaged.

A search ensued immediately and continued for several days with assistance of multiple agencies.  Four days later, a sonar device helped locate her body 167 feet below the surface and a team of divers recovered her body.
