November 10, 2011 (El Cajon) -- The community is invited to attend a special event celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Boys & Girls Clubs of East County on Thursday, November 17, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the El Cajon Clubhouse, 1171 East Madison Avenue, (next to Wells Park) in El Cajon. Members of the community, government leaders, BGCEC Board members, major sponsors, parents and children will attend a special open house and tour of the El Cajon Clubhouse.

As part of the celebration, a Time Capsule installed at the original opening of the Clubhouse in 1961 will be opened and examined. Children will install a new Time Capsule as part of the celebration.

Tours and celebration will be held from 5-7 p.m. with the actual time capsule opening at 5:45 p.m.

Constructed in 1961, the El Cajon Clubhouse has completed a $2 million renovation. The youth facility now features a new entrance and an exterior facelift that includes several murals and a new street sign. Inside, the Clubhouse features a new lobby area, an expanded game room area with table tennis, billiards and air hockey tables, updated health and fitness rooms and a remodeled kitchen for nutrition classes. A special part of the new remodel includes The Academy, a homework center filled with tables, computers, and a panel of large glass windows visible from the lobby area.

“Our mission remains “
to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible caring citizens,” says Jerry Fazio, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of East County Foundation. “We offer an after-school place for all youth aged 5 to 17 that is safe, nurturing, learning-centered and active.

Funds for the El Cajon Campaign are raised primarily through room sponsorships, which provide opportunities to memorialize individuals and organizations. For more information contact Foundation Executive Director Jerry Fazio at (619) 440-1600 or
