December 17, 2014 (Lakeside) – A vehicle theft in East County this week was exceptionally brazen.  Thieves stole an 18-ton bulldozer from a trucking company in Lakeside.

Surveillance video shows the heist conducted in broad daylight by thieves who loaded up the Caterpillar tractor onto a semi truck – after first using the dozer to move boulders out of the way. They rolled it out beneath a freeway overpass and over a river bed – crushing everything in its path.

10 News reports a white pickup truck at the scene may also be connected to the crime. The thieves are suspected of hot-wiring the bulldozer during the heist, which took over an hour to pull off.

The owner is posting signs at local truck stops, hoping someone will recognize the semi truck loaded up with a dozer in back.
