June 19, 2012 (Tecate) – A wildfire is burning south of the border, with smoke visible in the U.S.

Alfredo Escobedo, director of Mexico’s State Civil Defense, told ECM in a phone interview that they have fire fighters from Tecate and CONAFOR (federal fire brigades) on scene.

There is no containment as yet.  They are asking for other Mexican agencies to send fire personnel. Winds are between 20-30 Miles per Hour (30-50 KpH)

The fire is burning in grassland and manzanita mostly and it is not near the border as of late this afternoon. If it reaches the U.S. border, Mexican gets there, Cal Fire will be contacted, Escobedo said.
