May 28, 2013 (El Cajon)--Every Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m., Downtown El Cajon Business Partners hosts a classic car show. Each week  the theme changes, from last Wednesday’s “Topless Night” where all of the best convertibles could be seen on the Promenade, to this week's Salute to the Military.

Other upcoming events include Charger Steve's Starz Carz, Return of the Horseless Carriage, and Thunder on Main Street for the season finale at summer's end, featuring a full street closure.

ECM interviewed Mike Venancio (photo, right), an organizer of the event. Venancio told us that because none of the cars displayed are roped off, it is easier for one to view the vehicle.

This way, people are able to get up close to the cars if they please, rather than be held back by velvet ropes. With more personal viewing, Venancio hopes to promote this love of cars with younger people, so that the tradition of appreciation can continue through the generations.  He said that many young people are getting involved in restoring and showing off vintage vehicles.

You can also enjoy live music by local bands at Cajon Classic Cruise nights. Plus some local restaurants offer drink and food specials, and street vendors offer food for visitors as well. Later in the evening, around 7:00, the show also hosts many different kinds of entertainment, including world class magicians and comics.

The event draws hundreds of people each week, also helping local merchants and boosting the downtown economy.
