California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, and the California Senate Republican Caucus have both issued statements supporting Israel in the wake of the deadly Hamas attacks and Israel’s declaration of war on Hamas. The statements voice a rare example of unity in standing behind America’s ally.

“California stands with Israel. What we are witnessing is nothing short of horrific. Women, children — innocent people — being targeted with brutal acts of terrorism by Hamas. All on the 50th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War,” Governor Newsom posted on X (formerly Twitter) on October 8.

He continued, “There is simply no justification for this. I stand with Israel and its people in denouncing this horrific act of terrorism. We must demand an end to this violence — now.”

Two days later, the California Senate Republican Caucus issued this statement strongly denouncing the attack as "barbaric."

“Over the weekend, on the major Jewish holiday Simchat Torah and the 50th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War, Hamas terrorists invaded Israel, killing over 900 people and taking at least 130 civilians hostage, including women, children, elderly, and young people at a music festival. Media outlets are reporting that Americans have been abducted and killed. The images and videos of Hamas’s barbaric attack are shocking and sickening—videos of Jewish children in cages, bodies desecrated in the street, live streams of innocent civilians being murdered,” the GOP legislators stated.

"Not since the Holocaust has this large a number of Jews been killed in a single day. There is no justification for this appalling violence. Our hearts go out to those under fire, harmed, kidnapped, and murdered by terrorists. We are praying for peace and security,” the Senate Republicans added. "Israel has every right to defend itself and must secure the region by all means necessary. Hamas must be defeated and pay for their war crimes. We stand with Israel. California stands with Israel. America stands with Israel.”

Senator Minority Leader Brian Jones (R-Santee) forwarded th statemen to constistuents, adding,"Not since the Holocaust has this large a number of Jews been killed in a single day. There is no justification for this appalling violence. My heart goes out to those under fire, harmed, kidnapped, and murdered by terrorists. I am praying for peace and security.  As the Senator for California’s 40th District, I represent many Jewish communities that are hurting right now. I see you, I hear you, and I stand with you in solidarity."

Califiornia House Speaker Robert Rivas, a Democrat, posted on X ,"I stand with @CAJewishCaucus in condemning the brutal attack on Israel. Nothing justifies the killing of innocent civilians or the violence we see today. I hope all American leaders will speak out against these horrific attacks and work to restore peace and security."

Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel (D - Encino), Senator Scott Wiener (D - San Francisco), and Senator Josh Becker (D - Menlo Park), released the following statement on behalf of the California Legislative Jewish Caucus:

“We are heartbroken and horrified by the devastating terrorist attacks against Israel. We have visited the Israeli communities that have been ravaged by indiscriminate killings and kidnappings and many of us have friends and family in Israel who are huddled in bomb shelters with their children amid ongoing rocket attacks. Nothing can justify this brutal and grotesque violence.

Israel has the right and responsibility to defend its civilians, and we are grateful to the many American leaders – including President Biden, Vice President Harris, Senators Alex Padilla and Laphonza Butler and Members of Congress from California – who have spoken out clearly and unequivocally in support of Israel at this difficult moment.

We are praying for the safe return of hostages, for healing and comfort for the thousands who have been wounded or have lost loved ones, and for peace and security. We stand with Israel.”

Aisha Washab, a Muslim state legislator and Afghan refugee, posted, "#Afghanistan to #Ukraine to #Israel, we are #united against violence & the loss of innocent lives. Thousands are impacted by terror, war, and disaster. I stand against hate, discrimination and bloodshed. #Justice & #peace must prevail." She reposted a statement by the  California Asian American and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus, which says the organization “unequivocably condems the recent Hamas attack on Israel and stands in unwavering solidarity with the nation of Israel during this challenging time.”

The AAPILC statement concludes, “The AAPILC denounces any act that threatens the safety and well-being of innocent civilians regardless of nationality, religion, or ethnicity and extends its heartfelt thoughts and support to the people of Israel during these trying times. The AAPILC will continue to work alongside California’s Diversity Caucus to raise awareness to the current conflict, and remains committed to promoting understanding and cooperation among all communities involved.”

the killing babies baloney

This reminds me of baby-killing in Kuwait in 1990 to justify the first US war on Iraq. It was "The Nayirah testimony.". . . In 1992, it was revealed that Nayirah's last name was Al-Ṣabaḥ and that she was the daughter of Saud Al-Sabah, the Kuwaiti ambassador to the United States. Furthermore, it was revealed that her testimony was organized as part of the Citizens for a Free Kuwait public relations campaign, which was run by the American public relations firm Hill & Knowlton for the Kuwaiti Government. Following this, al-Sabah's testimony has come to be regarded as a classic example of modern atrocity propaganda

Verification babies were slaughtered, pregnant woman sliced open

Including photos in the Jerusalem Post and London Daily Mail.  Read it and weep.

Responsibility?

Your comment suggests HAMAS was justified in attacking citizens and beheading children and soldiers. Nothing justifies that barbarism. Even animals only kill for food.

There are reports of Hamas terrorists beheading babies

Maybe true, maybe propaganda. If true, doesn't say anything about Hamas. Any ethnic group, religious group, race, etc. one can always find brutal extremist. One Israeli Jew massacred a bunch of unarmed Moslem pilgrims. Some Israeli's have raped Palestinian women. We have KKK in US, doesn't mean all Christians, just a few. Even Nazi Germany got less than half the votes and you should read about one of my all time heros, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a Protestant minister who rescued Jews and was executed one week before camp he was in was liberated by us. And observers said he walked to gallows totally at peace. May not apply; but old saying: the exception proves the rule.

Slaughtering innocent children or other civilians indefensible

Anti-semitism is a relatively new phenomenon, mainly beginning latter part of 19th Century. Prior to that, there was discrimination against Jews; but Jews who converted to Christianity were usually completely accepted. Anti-semitism hates Jews by blood, not beliefs. And Israel has used Palestinians as shields as well. Hamas sometimes is brutal; but when an oppressed people confront a vicious super power, sometimes they behave horribly. And I'm not a fan of Hamas, or any group that subscribes to a rigid religion. Verse 2.256 in Quran: "There shall be NO compulsion in religion". However, Hamas also gets food for Gaza Palestinians and medical care. And as I wrote, Ashkenazi (European) Jews discriminate, mistreat Jews from Arab nations, even steal their infants.

I agree with what you write: "Slaughtering innocent children or other civilians is utterly indefensible, no matter how mistreated or discriminated against any group of people may feel."

Which applies both to Hamas and to Israel's indiscriminate bombing of Gaza, including schools and hospitals.

Anti-semitism

Anti-semitism is now defined as criticism of the people AND also of Zionist Israel which leads the world in human rights violations, according to the UN.

Ashkenazi Jews in Israel Discriminate Against Other Jews

In 1948 and after when Yemenite Jews and Jews from other Arab lands arrived in Israel, they were supplied with much lower funds for education, subsistence, and given low levels of employment; e.g. day laborers, janitors, etc. Even worse when they gave birth, the infants were taken, given to Ashkenazi (European, White) Jewish families and they were told the infants had died. Ashkenazi Jews still are the political power in Israel today and Jews from Arab lands still discriminated against.

None of that justifies the brutal terrorist attacks by Hamas.

There are reports of  Hamas terrorists beheading babies, among other atrocities.  Many nations have had factions that engaged in racial discrimination, which is wrong wherever it occurs, and there is also plenty of antisemitism in Arab nations, a fact you ignore here.  Yes, the U.S. has in the past done indefensible things, from war crimes (though some war criminals were court martialed and held accountable),  to the mistreatment of Native Americans.  None of that would justify wholesale slaughter of  U.S. civilians, who were not responsible for any of those actions.

Israel is the only nation on earth set aside as a safe haven for Jewish people,  most of whom just want to live in peace, and most of whom are good people, not bigots.  Just as there are no doubt good people in Palestine who don't condone Hamas' brutality or the use of human shields that Hamas has long used.

Slaughtering innocent children or other civilians is utterly indefensible, no matter how mistreated or discriminated against any group of people may feel.  If I were robbed or beaten, I would not want to murder the children of my assailant.  Your comments amount to blaming the victim in this particular attack, which is horrifying.

They get this verbal crap from Netanyahoo

“This is an enemy that murders children and mothers in their homes, in their beds, an enemy that abducts the elderly, children and young women, that slaughters and massacres our citizens, including children, who simply went out to enjoy the holiday.” – Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu. . . . .In fact is that it is Israel that has been charged with with human rights violations annually for years now, with Israel violations being three times the rest of the world. Shame on Israel! They move onto some Palestinians' land, bulldoze their home, and send them to a concentration camp. . . .There are over two million people in Gaza, and Yahoo says he will level the place. He gets the idea from the US, which has leveled cities many times in various places.

Israeli Human rights claims are false

None of those claims against Israel had merit and were based on hatred of Jews and filed by Muslim UN participants. The land now called Gaza was captured from Egypt, and the West Bank from Syria after they attacked Israel, so for Palestinians to claim it for themselves is a false pretext. HAMAS and Hezbollah were created and funded by Iran for the sole purpose of removing every Jew from their country. Your hatred for our country is noted.
