December 2, 2012 (San Diego’s East County)—A driver observed driving a Chevrolet Tahoe erratically at a high speed on I-8 early this morning refused to pull over, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit. The driver ultimately exited the freeway in the Granite Hills neighobrhood, lost control and rolled over.

“The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, exited the vehicle and the CHP Officers ordered him to stop and raise his hands,” Lt. Glenn Giannantonio with San Diego Sheriff’s homicide detail stated. “The suspect made movements leading the officers to believe he was reaching for a weapon while he was advancing toward them. Fearing the suspect would shoot them, one or more of the officers fired their service weapons at him.”

The suspect was struck by an unknown number of rounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured.  Authorities have not clarified whether the suspect actually had a weapon.

The pursuit began at 2:37 a.m. on I-8 east near El Cajon Boulevard. When the vehicle refused to yield, a pursuit ensued at speeds reportedly up to 95 mph.  The vehicle exited at Greenfield Drive, traveling at 80 mph before swerving onto La Cresta Road and rolling over, landing on its wheels in the 1900 block.

The suspect has been identified as Anthony Osorio, 27, who resided in Crest.
