December 2, 2014 (Chula Vista)--Detectives from the Chula Vista Police Department Crimes of Violence unit are raising donations from fellow officers and Department employees to provide the children of a murder victim some holiday gifts. Leonor Castillo was murdered by her ex-husband (the children's father) when he ran her over in a jealous rage on Friday November 28th on Elm Ave in Chula Vista. The suspect turned himself in at the Mexico border last night and was booked into County Jail on charges of Homicide.

The tragic incident left the children (all girls, ages 10, 8, and 3) without a mother or father during the holiday season. At the time of the murder, the children were waiting at the grandparent's home for the mother to return so they could decorate their Christmas tree together.

“The charitable response so far has been overwhelming,” says Lt. Fritz Reber.

In addition to the generous cash donations from employees, the CVPD dispatchers are putting together stockings for the family. The children have also been included in the Department's annual toy drive on December 13th. CVPD has received inquiries and potential commitments to help from "Star Pal" (in conjunction with the Charges), as well as from officers and agencies throughout the County.

“CVPD would like to thank all those who have expressed an interest in helping,” said Lt Reber, adding that the family set up a fund to benefit the children. Anyone wishing to contribute can do so at: http://www.gofundme.com/i0u0a4
