March 17, 2013 (El Cajon) – The City of El Cajon Recreation Department is the recipient of California Park and Recreation Society’s (CPRS) Achievement Award for the City’s Centennial Celebration Event held on November 12, 2012. The award was announced in February, and formally presented at the March 12, 2013, City Council Meeting by CPRS Board President Susan Richardson.

Richardson stated that El Cajon is one of the leaders in the State of California in recognizing that recreation programs and parks are essential to the quality of life within a community.

El Cajon’s Centennial Celebration was given the Achievement Award for a recreation event representing the San Diego and Imperial Counties. This award is given to an agency for outstanding and innovative achievement in the development and implementation of a project.  The Centennial Celebration commemorated 100 years of the City’s incorporation by honoring and celebrating the people who make El Cajon the Valley of Opportunity.

CPRS advocates for recreational experiences to individuals, families and communities, supports open space, park and trail development, promotes health and wellness, increases cultural unity and strengthens communities.

CPRS District 12 held its Annual Awards & Installation Banquet on February 27, 2013, to honor and award park and recreation professionals, valued volunteers, recreation students, services, events and facilities from 2012.
