March 22, 2011 (El Cajon) – The El Cajon Superior Court has closed today due to a power outage caused by a short circuit in the electrical system. Phone service is also not working.

Smoke detectors went off around 1:40 a.m. and firefighters found the electrical box smoldering, El Cajon spokesperson Monica Zech indicated. The incident also knocked out a backup power system for the courthouse.

If you were scheduled to appear on a traffic or misdemeanor arraignment, a court representative advises that you should come to the courthouse within the next seven days to have your court heard. If you were scheduled for jury duty today, call the Jury Commissioner at 619-450-5757 to find out when you should appear.

Operations at the courthouse are expected to resume tomorrow, the Union-Tribune reports.
