October 31, 2023 (Borrego Springs) – Yesterday morning’s fire destroyed the historic clubhouse at de Anza Country Club in Borrego Springs.  The club posted on Facebook, “Sad news to report. Our beautiful clubhouse at de Anza has burned…Bighorn Room,  Coyote Den, Ballroom, offices, locker rooms were all ruined.  Golf Shop is okay. We are all devastated; members, employees and friends of de Anza.”

San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond posted on  social media that his “heart goes out to the Borrego Springs community after the devastating fire at De Anza Country Club this morning. Grateful for the heroic efforts of @CalFireSanDIego to ensure no injuries. My office will be doing all we can to support and assist the residents during this challenging time.”

Over 60 Cal Fire firefighters fought the fire.  When crews arrived at 4:40 a.m. Monday, 75% of the clubhouse was engulfed in flames, Cal Fire posted on X (formerly Twitter.) Cal Fire kept the blaze from spreading to other buildings and surrounding vegetation. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

The historic country club was established in 1957 as part of a golf course and country club estate homes.  The resort has hosted many major golf tournaments, attracting famed golfers.
