A SMOKIN' HOT EVENT: DESCANSO DEEP-PIT BBQ SEPT. 6

August 25, 2015 (Descanso)--Our Lady of Light Catholic Church in Descanso will hold its 78th Annual Deep Pit Barbecue on Sunday, September 6^th during the Labor Day weekend.

The festivities will start at 11 a.m. and continue until 6 p.m. The barbecue has been a major event of the mountain empire area since before World War II. It will be held on the Church grounds on Riverside drive in Descanso.

There will be Craft and game booths for the entire family. “Will Ramey & Firewater,” a well known country and western band will provide the entertainment for dining and dancing. (photo, right)

The oak-smoked, deep pit barbecue dinners featuring 1,600 pounds of tender beef are always delicious and the homemade pies always a nice touch after that wonderful barbecue. Dinners are always reasonably priced.

Tickets for the door prizes are available all day on the day of the barbecue as well as tickets for the grand prize. This year’s grand prize is $1,000 dollars.

Organizers invite you to come and spend the day in this beautiful setting in the cool mountain air enjoy great food, music and fun.

From I-8 exit Japatul exit (Hwy. 79/ Julian ) head north from off ramp, to Riverside Drive left on Riverside for ½ mile.
