April 7, 2024 (San Diego’s East County) -- Late April brings some awesome events to East County, including  Daffodil Days in Julian, a stargazing party at Mission Trails, a solar eclipse party in Julian, the opening of the Cajon Classic Cruises season, Ramona’s open studios art tour, Latino musical headliners at Viejas Concerts in the Park, Heritage of the Americas Museum’s spring art show, stand-up comedian Kevin Hart at the Magnolia, Lakeside’s rodeo and Western Days parade, and a Neil Young concert at SDSU.

 
DAFFODIL DAYS NOW THROUGH APRIL 14
 
Julian Farm and Orchard invites you to enjoy Daffodil Days each Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. now through April 14, or whenever the beautiful yellow blooms are gone.
 
The farm offers u-pick daffodils,  as well as other farm activities including a petting zoo, tractor-pulled hayrides, ax throwing, rock-climbing wall, and a gift shop with locally crafted items as well as potted daffodils for sale.

SOLAR ECLIPSE PARTY APRIL 8 IN JULIAN
 
The Julian Dark Sky Network and Julian Library present a Solar Eclipse Viewing Party  on Monday, April 8 starting at 10 a.m. at the Julian Library (1850 CA-78, Julian). 
 
This event is free, including eclipse viewing glasses. View the last solar eclipse visible in North America until 2045!
 
They will have solar telescopes set up for viewing the sunspots, flares, prominences and granular photosphere of our nearest star, the sun.
 
Head inside and check out a special slideshow projection of Night Sky and Astrophotography images celebrating International Dark Sky Week.
 
On display there will also be watercolors of galaxies done for the occasion by students.

CAJON CLASSIC CRUISES REVS UP APRIL 10
 
Cajon Classic Cruises opens the season on Wednesday night, April 10 with a full street closure for the car shows at Main and Magnolia, along with plenty of fun, food and entertainment for the whole family.
 
Cajon Classic Cruises will continue all summer long each Wednesday night from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. April 17 will be Girls Night Out, and on April 24, Cajon Classic Cruises will be Antique Trucks and Small Engine.

RAMONA OPEN STUDIOS TOUR APRIL 13-14
 
On Saturday & Sunday, April 13-14,  the Ramona Chamber of Commerce will present the Annual Ramona Open Studios Tour. You will have a unique opportunity to visit with Ramona artists in their private studios, while viewing their work. 
 
This self-guided tour will meander through Ramona, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
 
Participating artists showing a variety of artistic expressions including painting, ceramics, jewelry, sculptures, fused glass and woodworking, which will be available for purchase.

VIEJAS CONCERTS IN THE PARK STARTING APRIL 19
 
Concerts in the Park at Viejas in Alpine returns starting April 19 with a performance by Luis Angel, (pronounced Ahn-hell) known as El Flaco, and Luis Antonio, El Mimoso.
 
Then on April 27th, Mariachis Vargas will bring mariachi music to Viejas Concerts in the Park. More concerts are planned in May, June and July. For tickets and details, visit Viejas.com/entertainment
 
EARTH DAY FAIR IN LA MESA APRIL 20
 
The City of La Mesa is inviting residents, visitors, sponsors and vendors to join its family-friendly Earth Day Fair on Saturday, April 20 at MacArthur Park. 
 
The festival is a celebration of the city’s commitment to environmental stewardship and a showcase of local businesses that offer eco-friendly products and services.
 
The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and feature a variety of activities for all ages and interests. 
 
ART SHOW AT HERITAGE OF THE AMERICAS MUSEUM APRIL 20
 
Heritage of the Americas Museum at Cuyamaca College will host a spring art show, with a reception on April 20th from 12 to 4 p.m. featuring talented artists from the Cuyamaca Art Club.
 
Their works will feature topics related to the Americas.in mediums ranging from paintings to digital art to charcoal creations.
 
 
REVOLUTIONARY WAR REENACTMENT APRIL 20 & 21
 
Julian Farm and Orchard is proud to commemorate the 249th anniversary of the battles of Lexington and Concord, which marked the beginning of the American War of Independence, with the return of their annual Revolution in the Orchard re-enactment event. Hosted on their 25 acre sustainable farm at 4381 Julian Hwy in Santa Ysabel, come interact with soldiers, merchants and townspeople of colonial America Saturday and/or Sunday, April 20 and 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
 
They invite all to experience a taste of the founding of our great nation. Volunteer historians and reenactors from all over the United States gather at this event to share living history with guests. This family-friendly event features dozens of historical interpreters representing the soldiers and civilians of the American Revolution, demonstrating all aspects of daily and military life.
 
COMEDIAN KEVIN HART AT THE MAGNOLIA APRIL 21
 
Actor and comedian Kevin Hart will perform live at the Magnolia in El Cajon on April 21st with two shows, at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
 
Hart has been a guest host on Saturday Night Live, hosted the MTV Music Video Awards, won several stand-up comedy competitions, and founded the Laugh Out Loud comedy streaming network. 
 
He’s also an accomplished actor with starting roles in many motion pictures including the Jumanji series, Scary Movie, Fast and Furious, and more.
 
In 2015, Time Magazine named him among the 100 most influential people in the world.

LAKESIDE RODEO APRIL 25-28
 
Lakeside’s annual rodeo will be held April 25th through 28th  featuring events such as bronco and bull riding, barrel racing and more. 
 
A tradition for more than a century, the rodeo began back in 1920 and today benefits youth groups in the Lakeside community.  Tickets are available at LakesideRodeo.com.
 
LAKESIDE WESTERN DAYS PARADE APRIL 27
 
Lakeside’s Western Days Parade rolls out on Saturday, April 27 starting at 9:35 am.
 
The parade route starts on Woodside Avenue and proceeds down Maine Avenue. This year’s theme is Lakeside:  a great small town.
 
The parade is organized by the Lakeside Chamber of Commerce,  and you can find more information at LakesideChamber.org.
 
NEIL YOUNG CONCERT APRIL AT SDSU
 
Legendary musician Neil Young and his band Crazy Horse will perform live at the Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre at San Diego State University on April 27.
 
Winner of multiple Grammy awards, Neil Young has previously performed with such big-name bands as Crosby, Stills and Nash and Buffalo Springfield. His hit songs include Freedom, Philadelphia, and Harvest Moon.

SWEET PEA DAY AT SUMMERS PAST FARMS APRIL 27
 
Summers Past Farms invites you to Sweat Pea Day on Saturday, April 27.
 
Stroll through their fragrant sweet pea maze and purchase a bouquet of cut sweet pea flowers to take home.
 
The farm is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. but early arrival is recommended, since the sweet pea bouquets have been known to sell out quickly.
