July 18, 2018 (San Diego’s East County) -- This week’s Destination East County includes Lemon Grove concerts in the park, El Cajon classic cruise nights, live music in La Mesa, a Rolling Stones tribute in Santee, Pine Valley Days, a Sip of Julian and Gregory Page in concert at the garden.

Plus, we’ll have a preview of coming attractions including the HeART of Mt. Helix, the Barona Powwow, and the Julian Grape Stomp Festa.

LEMON GROVE CONCERTS IN THE PARK

The City of Lemon Grove invites you to get your groove on in the Grove during the city’s summer concert series held each Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. in Berry Street Park (7071 Mt. Vernon Street) in the newly completed park amphitheater.

The next performances will be a steel drum concert by We Kinda Music on July 26 and Cajun Zydeco music by the Bayou Brothers on August 2nd.

EL CAJON CLASSIC CRUISE NIGHTS

El Cajon’s classic cruise nights continue each Wednesday night from 5 to 8 p.m. all summer long on Main Street and the Prescott Promenade. The next shows are VW Mania on July 25th, and Convertible Night on August 1.

ROLLING STONES TRIBUTE JULY 26 IN SANTEE

Santee’s summer concert series continues this weekend with Ultimate Stones, a tribute to the Rolling Stones. The concert runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Town Center Community Park East (550 Town Center Drive) and will also include kids’ activities and food trucks.

LIVE MUSIC AT CENTIFONTI’S IN LA MESA

Centifonti’s restaurant in La Mesa has live music by hot local bands on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Some of the upcoming talent the next couple of weeks includes G. Daddys, Urban Gypsies, Suzie and the Playboys, the Celebrities and the Pushpins.

PINE VALLEY DAYS JULY 27-28

Pine Valley Days will take place on July 27th and 28th.  Sponsored by the Mountain Empire Men’s Club in the mountain town of Pine Valley, Pine Valley Days will include a parade on Saturday at 9 a.m., music festival, craft fair, barbecue, kids zone and other activities throughout the weekend.

SIP OF JULIAN JULY 28

On Saturday, July 28th, 2018, the Julian Chamber of Commerce is co-hosting the 4th Annual ‘Sip of Julian’. 

Proof that Julian isn’t about apples and apple pies, the sip features growers and producers of wine, craft beer, mead, craft cocktails, and hard cider, offering up a sampling of their delicious hand-crafted specialties. There will also be bites of gourmet foods to savor.

GREGORY PAGE CONCERT AT THE GARDEN JULY 28

You’re invited to spend a warm summer’s evening in The Water Conservation Garden at Cuyamaca College listening to the dreamy music of Gregory Page.  Come early to stroll through the charming and whimsical garden before the concert held in the outdoor amphitheater from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Page captures his audiences with his engaging lyrics and melodies reminiscent of the 1920’s sweet jazz era, weaving together songs, stories and poetry. For tickets and details, visit www.TheGarden.org.  

SAPS AT SEA 40TH ANNIVERSARY SHOW JULY 28

Saps at Sea, the San Diego Laurel & Hardy fan club, presents their 40th Anniversary Spectacular on Saturday, July 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Spring Valley.  The organizers are promising an "ocean of laughs" with a special program of film favorites and some new delights.

The Saps will screen Hog Wild. Then, The Little Rascals star in Hi'-Neighbor!  After intermission with cake and ice cream, author and Hal Roach historian Craig Calman returns to talk about the man who brought Laurel & Hardy together. Books and 40th anniversary T-shirts will be available for purchase. And finally, the Saps will screen their namesake classic film, Saps at Sea

HEART OF MT. HELIX AUGUST 11

The annual HeART of Mt. Helix event takes place on August 11th at the Mt. Helix Park Amphitheatre.  Guests can enjoy tastes of foods from local restaurants, wines and beers, also enjoy artworks by local artists and an auction – all while watching the sunset and celebrating under the stars at one of East County’s most dramatic venues.

Proceeds benefit the Mt. Helix park and Amphitheatre, which are funded entirely through donations. For tickets and details, visit www.MtHelixPark.org.

BARONA POWWOW AUG. 31-SEPT. 2

The annual Barona Powwow will be held August 31st through September 2nd at the Barona Sports Park on the Barona reservation. Native American dancers and drummers from across the nation come to participate in competitions at the powwow, where you can also find a wide variety of Native American crafts, jewelry, and foods available for purchase.

JULIAN GRAPE STOMP FESTA SEPT. 1

The Julian Grape Stomp Festa invites you to kick off your shoes and squish grapes beneath your feet at the 22nd annual event on September 1st from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Menghini Winery in Julian. Taste wines from multiple wineries as well as food and drinks from a variety of local establishments.

There will also be live music, Bocce ball, and dancing at this party to remember, as well as a VIP event complete with pig roast.
