DISABLED MOTORIST STRUCK AND KILLED BY LEXUS IN LEMON GROVE; TOW TRUCK DRIVER ALSO INJURED

Update October 19, 2017:  The man killed while standing beside his disabled vehicle has been identified as Cesar Duenas, 55.

October 18, 2017 (Lemon Grove) – A Lexus driver struck and killed a disabled motorist who was on the shoulder of State Route 94 at the Lemon Grove off ramp at 5:50 p.m. yesterday.   A tow truck driver, 39, from Santee who was assisting the disabled motorist also was struck and sustained minor injuries.

For unknown reasons, the Lexus collided into the rear of a Dodge Ram pick-up truck and utility trailer belonging to the disabled motorist. The vehicles were being loaded up by the tow truck driver when the accident occurred.

The disabled motorist sustained severe head injury and died at the scene.  He has not yet been identified, though both of his vehicles were registered to a San Diego address, Officer Kevin Pearlstein told ECM.

The tow truck driver from USA Towing received minor injuries and as transported via ambulance to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego. 

The driver of the Lexus, 40, from National City, was cooperative and was interviewed on the scene. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors, said Officer Garrow.
