January 28, 2011 (Deerhorn Valley) – Today, a Deerhorn Valley resident photographed two dogs that match descriptions of those that have been killing livestock animals in the area. If you can identify the dogs or their owners, please contact theantler@deerhornvalley.net.

On January 18, witnesses say that a pair of dogs attacked and killed a goat on Elena Lane.  Dogs of a similar description killed a sheep on Upper Honey Springs the same day, the Deerhorn Valley Antler reports. The sheep’s owner also lost a goat in an animal attack the week before. Witnesses to two of the attacks say the dogs were both large, one with long, black hair and the other with short, light hair.

“These are not feral of abandoned dogs. They are well-fed pets who have taken to sport-killing,” the Antler reported at the time. Dogs that have attacked livestock tend tod return to the same areas and will continue killing, the report stated: http://deerhornvalley.net/TheAntler2.6.pdf

Other attacks on livestock animals have been reported in East County, including three dogs that reportedly attacked a horse on Lyons Creek Road last November. According to the Antler, those dogs were taken into custody by Animal Control but later returned to their owner, who failed to follow-up and contact the horse’s owner regarding a $1200 vet bill incurred. (If you have info on the horse attack, contact the horse’s owners at ceeteemac@aabol.com)

The County requires that dogs be kept inside a fenced yard, home, or on a leash at all times.
