November 5, 2010 (San Diego) - Today’s column is dedicated to our military in East County, and to active duty military and veterans worldwide--especially Dollar-wise Divas’ good friend Katie R. who is serving in Kabul, Afghanistan. Thank you for your service to our country. 

Freedom isn’t free; it is paid by the honorable service and sacrifice of veterans, active duty military and their families. Today, we share info with San Diego's large military community about special offers from local retailers who thank you for your service. Here is a list of freebies especially for you!  Make sure to check out these special offers--and tell store owners that East County Magazine and the Dollar-Wi$e Divas sent you.

Applebee’s Restaurant is once again offering a free meal to all military veterans and active duty service members on Thursday, November 11, there will be a choice of seven delicious entrees. For more information, including the necessary proof of service, visit http://www.applebees.com/vetsDay/default.aspx. : Last year Applebees’ served over one million free meals nationwide. There are two locations in East County the El Cajon location at 107 Fletcher Parkway, 619-593-3066 or the Rancho San Diego location at 2508 Jamacha, 619-670-7203.


McCormack & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurant
– free lunch or dinner, their twelfth annual Veteran’s Appreciation celebration on Sunday, November 7 and they have a special menu with yummy items for the Veterans to choose. They are located downtown and not in East County, we wanted to mention them since they are offering a free meal for veterans and active duty military. Outback Steakhouse
is offering a free Bloomin’Onion and one non-alcoholic beverage to honor veterans and active duty military on Thursday, November 11. There are three locations, one in Poway at 14701 Pomerado Road or call 858-486-1563, one in La Mesa at 5628 Lake Murray Blvd or call 619-466-9795 and in El Cajon, they are located at 722 Jamacha Road or call 619-588-4332. Free Hugo® Canes for Veterans: Sam’s Club® locations nationwide will distribute 36,000 Hugo® canes free of charge on November 10, 11 and 12, 2010 to U.S. military veterans in need of mobility assistance. This product retails for $29.99 and there are limited quantities available, so make sure to go on Wednesday, the 10th as the offer is only available while supplies last. Sam’s Club® Membership is not required, but proof of military service may be required. For more information, visit HugoSalutes.com.
