April 8, 2018 (El Cajon) – Two good Samaritans stopped to help a driver involved in a solo vehicle collision at 1:20 a.m.  on eastbound I-8 just west of El Cajon Boulevard in El Cajon.  The vehicle had come to rest in the number 2 lane of traffic.

One of the good Samaritans stopped on the right shoulder and ran back to the scene. The other stopped in the center median near the damaged car.  The driver got out and was standing in the number 1 lane talking with the passerby who had stopped on the shoulder, when another motorist failed to see them in the darkness and struck them both.

Both the driver involved in the earlier crash and the good Samaritan sustained fatal injuries, says Officer Travis Garrow with the California Highway Patrol.  An investigation is ongoing.

Edit...

Had a mild emergency with a lost dog.. When you see 5 or more Police or CHP vehicles on scene at a traffic accident , the reason is simply to prevent this type of tragic event. During SUMMER hot months....I always pull over for those on the 8 coming up the hill... and make sure they have water...But I am Aware of the dangers... For those going down and up the hill...Carry WATER for yourself and others. :)
