February 8, 2017 (Spring Valley) – A 75-year-old man who was crossing Sweetwater Road north of Tyler Street in Spring Valley at 10 p.m. last night outside of a marked crosswalk was struck by a Mercedes. He died at the scene of his injuries.

Andrew Wesam Thouzen, the 18-year-old driver, failed to stop at the scene of the collision, says Officer Kevin Pearlstein with the California Highway Patrol.

“He was located a short time later in an apartment complex on Troy St.,” Officer Pearlstein confirms.  Thouzen was taken to the San Diego County Jail and charged with felony hit and run causing death.

Alcohol and or drugs were not factors, according to Officer Pearlstein.

To stay safe when crossing the street, always cross in a marked crosswalk.  When walking at night, wear light-colored clothing and reflective material, so that you will be visible to motorists.

It is a crime to leave the scene of any accident that cause injury, death or damage, so always call 911 if you are involved in a serious collision and remain at the scene.  Someone’s life—and your future—could be at stake.
