January 15, 2018 (San Diego’s East County) — Deputies from the Sheriff's Alpine, Lakeside, and Santee Station responded to request for assistance from the California Highway Patrol with a traffic pursuit this afternoon around 4:30 p.m. The driver was wanted for speeding and was driving westbound Interstate 8 through Alpine.

“The driver exited the freeway in Lakeside and drove on surface streets until he entered Santee. After the pursuit entered Santee, CHP decided to discontinue their unit,” says Sergeant Aaron Montah with the Sheriff’s department.  “Shortly after, Corporal Michael Lee was able to deploy a spike strip and deflate the pursued vehicle's front and rear driver side tires.”

The vehicle came to a stop at Cuyamaca Street and River Park Drive. Deputies conducted a hot stop and the driver and solo occupant of the vehicle was taken into custody.

The vehicle had no license plates on it, and a check of the VIN revealed it was a stolen vehicle. CHP arrived and took custody of the driver. Multiple members of the media were on scene.
