May 10, 2016 (El Cajon) -- Fletcher Hills resident Donald Chafetz has been selected as a speaker and exhibitor at the 2016 World Stamp Show in New York. This prestigious event happens only every 10 years and is expected to draw an international crowd of 250,000 from every corner of the globe. Chafetz is an active member of the Philatelic 25 Club of San Diego, exhibit chair of the SANDICAL exhibition, a local show, featuring collections from across the nation and has won gold medals for his collections on Morris County, New Jersey and Holy Land printed matter exhibits.

He is the driving force behind the Israel Philatelist, a publication recognized as a leading English language magazine featuring postal material from the Holy Land. It placed 10th out of 33 in a German literary Competition held in Monaco and won a gold medal in the American Philatelic Society literature Competition. He has acted as a judge for many national competitions, written columns for Linn’s Stamp Newspaper and the Morris County Daily Record in New Jersey.

Don began stamp collecting at the age of eleven when a cousin lost interest in her collection and passed it on to him. He soon became intrigued with the stories behind the colorful miniature illustrations found on the face of the stamps themselves, and as he dug deeper into the fascinating hobby, with postal markings, the history and the variety of printed matter found on postal covers, cards, and advertising pieces, and finally the variety and breadth of topics found on printed postal matter from all over the world.

Although his careers in the army and engineering took him to many locations and kept him very busy, he has never stopped being an active and enthusiastic collector.
