FAA regulations won’t diminish danger of drones (San Diego Union-Tribune)

Earlier this week, an analysis released by Bard College said that from Dec. 17, 2013, to Sept. 12 of this year, there were at least 241 encounters between drones and manned aircraft that met the FAA definition of a near-collision, including 14 in San Diego.

District attorney releases police shooting video (KPBS)

A security camera video of a San Diego police officer shooting and killing an unarmed man released Tuesday shows the man crossing an alley toward the officer’s patrol car, then the officer firing a single shot and the man falling to the ground.

Solar industry declares victory in California net metering battle (PV Tech)

California’s utility regulator has ruled that the state’s flagship net metering regime will be maintained in broadly its current form beyond 2017, in what is being hailed as a major victory for the pro-solar lobby…Utility companies in the state had been pushing for net metering payments to solar customers to be slashed, but the CPUC has ruled that they will continue to be paid at retail rates.

California man, 22, accused of trying to join al-Nusrah Front (Reuters)

 A 22-year-old man from Fremont, California, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on one count of attempting to provide material support or resources to the al-Nusrah Front insurgent group in Syria, U.S. prosecutors said on Thursday.

U.S. to charge man who supplied guns to California shooters: sources (Reuters)

 Federal authorities are preparing criminal charges against a man who investigators say supplied guns to the married couple who killed 14 people at a holiday party in San Bernardino, California, this month, two government sources said on Thursday.
