On the heels of elected officials from another local water agency giving themselves a pay raise, board members from the Padre Dam Municipal Water District Board last week voted to increase their per-meeting rate.

Three Cal Fire San Diego firefighters suffered minor injuries while dousing a blaze at a home in a rural area southwest of Julian, authorities said Tuesday.

But this relatively new business model has touched off a whole new way of doing business for another industry: the sex trade. Law enforcement globally is reporting a rise in pop-up brothels. San Diego's Sex Trafficking Task Force calls it a form of modern-day slavery now hiding in plain sight.

5 dead, including 3 children, in Paradise Hills shooting (San Diego Union-Tribune)

 Five members of a family, including three children, died in a shooting at a Paradise Hills home Saturday morning and another child was wounded and undergoing surgery, San Diego police said. The suspect is believed to be among the dead, homicide Lt. Matt Dobbs told reporters outside the home.

Teen uses remote-controlled car to smuggle meth: Border Patrol (San Diego Union-Tribune)

An American teenager was arrested over the weekend after using a remote-controlled car to smuggle methamphetamine over the U.S.-Mexico border, U.S. Border Patrol officials announced Tuesday.  Agents spotted the 16-year-old boy around 12:30 a.m. Sunday walking with two duffel bags along the secondary border wall. An agent approached the boy as he hid in thick brush near the border in San Diego County, Border Patrol spokesman Theron Francisco said.

 

Navy wants to eject Chief Eddie Gallagher, who was cleared by Trump, from SEALS (KUSI)

Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer Eddie Gallagher has been ordered to appear before Navy leaders Wednesday morning, and is expected to be notified that the Navy intends to eject him from the force, two Navy officials told The New York Times Tuesday.

California attorney general sues Juul, alleging vape ads reached youths (Sacramento Bee)

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra on Monday announced his office has sued Juul, accusing the San Francisco e-cigarette company of illegally advertising to young people and failing to warn consumers about the potential health risks of using Juul products.

California Supreme Court rejects law requiring Trump to release tax returns to get on ballot   (Fox News)

The California Supreme Court on Thursday struck down a state law that would have required President Trump to release his tax returns in order to appear on the state’s primary ballot. Justices in Sacramento said that the law – which required all candidates for president and governor to submit five years’ worth of personal income tax returns in order to be included on primary ballots – was unconstitutional.
