Wildfire Victims Might Be Eligible For Quick Tax Refunds (KPBS)

Special tax rules allow San Diego County residents who suffered damages in the May wildfires to claim a loss in either the year the disaster occurred or in the prior year.

MTS To Order 45 New Buses For East County Routes (KPBS)

The new Metropolitan Transit System buses will be powered by compressed natural gas and include onboard video surveillance inside and outside the vehicle, new wheelchair restraint systems, disk brakes and enhanced cooling systems.

Padre Dam to study greater reuse of wastewater (UT)

Padre Dam water district directors have approved an agreement with three other jurisdictions to study the possibility of treating wastewater to such a level as to create a new source of potable water.  To fund the study, the Padre Dam Municipal Water District is teaming with the Helix Water District, the city of El Cajon and the county.

Brown vetoes $100 million boost for UC, Cal State (SacBee)  

Gov. Jerry Brown has vetoed legislation that would have given the University of California and California State University systems a $100 million financial boost.... The budget Brown signed this summer included the $100 million— if the state received a certain level of revenue from property taxes. But Brown says those tax revenues didn't materialize

Governor signs bills to help those in foster care (SacBee)  

Gov. Jerry Brown announced Monday that he signed a package of bills to help foster children in California by encouraging early placement with relatives and extending support to finish college.

Goodbye to romance (SD Reader)

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) today (Sept. 25) removed an administrative law judge from the hearing on rates that will be charged by Pacific Gas & Electric. This hearing is linked to the 2010 pipeline explosion that killed eight people.  It has been revealed that PG&E sent emails to CPUC officials, asking for a more friendly judge in the hearings about the explosion. CPUC officials were sympathetic, and PG&E got its friendly judge. Now there will be a new judge in the rate case that touches on the explosion.
